What this llms.txt generator writes, and what to check next

The generator writes a plain markdown file in the layout the llms.txt proposal describes: a # Name title, a > one-line summary, optional description, audience and topic lines as plain text, and one Key pages section listing [Label](URL) links. When you click Read my sitemap it pulls up to 20 pages from your own sitemap, shortest paths first, so the homepage and top sections lead. Nothing is stored; the file is built in your browser.

Before you upload it, check three things. Remove pages a buyer would never need, such as legal or tag pages. Add a short description after each link, because a bare URL tells a reader nothing. And make sure the file is served as plain text at the root of your domain, not behind a login or a redirect. Then run it through the llms.txt checker, which fetches your live file and validates its structure.

Keep expectations honest. When we checked 1,150 software brands in September 2026, the half that publish an llms.txt were not reliably recommended by AI more often than the half that do not, and Google says its AI features need no such file.
