What Claude brand tracking means

Claude brand tracking is checking, on a schedule, whether Anthropic’s Claude names your brand when a buyer asks it for a recommendation, where you sit among the brands it names, and which sources it cites. Most people who search for a “Claude rank tracker” mean this. A smaller group means an SEO rank tracker that uses Claude to do the work, which is a different product and not what this page covers.

“Rank” needs care here. Claude does not return a list of links in a fixed order. It writes one answer and names some brands in it, and the order is not stable from run to run: across the four engines we track daily, a cited domain held the same position in consecutive runs only 39.5% of the time between 10 July and 10 August 2026. So a Claude tracker records four things per question: whether you were named, where you sat among the names, which sources were cited, and who was named instead. The first is the one to trust.

Claude is also the model behind Claude Code, so developers and technical buyers meet it while they work, not only when they sit down to research a purchase. If your buyers are technical, Claude is where some of them ask.

How Claude chooses its sources

Claude answers in one of two modes. With web search off, it answers from what it learned in training and cites nothing. With web search on, it searches, reads pages and cites them. The same question can name different brands in the two modes, which is why GetIntel checks Claude with web search on, the mode that reflects the live web your work can change.

The widest spread of sources of any engine

In our 2 August 2026 run of 100 buying questions across 10 software categories, Claude cited 5.27 domains per answer. Its 553 citations went to 403 different domains. Its single most-cited domain took 1.4% of its citations and its top three took 3.6%, against 12.4% for ChatGPT and 19.6% for Google AI Overviews. No short list of sites wins Claude. Being present across many credible pages that discuss your category matters more than being on any one of them.

It names vendors readily

Claude named 4.22 vendors per answer in the same run and named none on only 3 of 100 questions, against 19 for Perplexity. On a buying question Claude usually makes a recommendation, so being left out of its answer usually means a rival was put in.

It can only cite what its crawlers can reach

Anthropic runs its own crawlers, and a robots.txt rule that blocks them keeps your pages out of what Claude can find. Blocking is rare among the sites that do get cited: of the 39 most-cited domains in our AI visibility tracking on 18 August 2026, none blocked a named AI crawler. GetIntel’s weekly technical scan on Pro and Growth checks your own robots.txt for it. The engine-by-engine playbook is in how to rank in Claude.

What we have not measured

Because Claude runs weekly, we do not have a day-to-day churn figure for it the way we do for the daily engines. And GetIntel reads Claude through Anthropic’s API with web search on, not through the claude.ai app. For ChatGPT, where we did test both paths, the API and the interface shared only 13.6% of their sources on 11 August 2026. We have not run that comparison for Claude, so read Claude figures as the API’s view of Claude.

How to check your brand in Claude by hand, and why it breaks

Claude is the one engine where a manual check can tell you something a tracker does not, because you can ask each question in both modes.

  1. Open a fresh chat outside any Project. Project instructions and uploaded files shape every answer inside that Project.
  2. Turn web search on and ask your buyer questions. Record whether you are named, your position among the names, and the sources cited.
  3. Ask the same questions with web search off. If you appear with search on but not off, Claude can find you but did not learn about you in training. If you appear in neither, the gap is in what the web says about you.
  4. Note who is named instead in both modes, and repeat on the same questions next week.

It breaks the same way it does on every engine, with one Claude-specific twist. With 403 different domains behind 100 answers, ten hand-checked answers will not show you a pattern in the sources; you need many runs before a source recurs often enough to act on. Beyond that, one check is a sample, a spreadsheet keeps no history, and doing both modes for every question doubles the work. Claude is also the one engine our free AI citation checker does not cover, so a manual check or the Growth plan are the two ways to see it.

How it works

See your Claude visibility, every Monday.

No tag, no SDK. On the Growth plan, paste a domain and the weekly Claude checks start.

01

Connect your domain

GetIntel maps your category and the buyer-intent questions a real Claude user would ask about it.

02

Weekly Claude checks

Every Monday, GetIntel asks Claude the same buyer questions through the API with web search on, and logs whether you were named, a rival was named instead, or the category went unanswered.

03

Topics, sources, and a task list

Results roll up into topics, each with its own score, trend, and the sources Claude cited. On Pro and Growth, gaps become a ranked task list you or your coding agent can work over MCP.

How GetIntel tracks it

How GetIntel tracks your brand in Claude

How the Claude check works

Claude answers through the API, with web search on.

GetIntel asks Claude the same buyer-intent questions your prospects would, through the API with web search turned on. Every Monday it logs whether Claude named your brand first, mentioned it further down, or skipped the category entirely, and it captures the pages Claude cited when it gave one.

  • Claude runs weekly (Mondays) on Growth; ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews run daily on every plan
  • Every answer is logged as Recommended, Mentioned, Absent, Open, or No answer
  • Sources Claude cites are captured and tagged yours, a competitor's, or third-party
What GetIntel tracks

Named, ranked, or skipped: read the full answer.

For each buyer question, GetIntel records whether Claude named you at all, where you ranked among the names it gave, and exactly who it recommended instead, plus the full answer text so you're not just staring at a score.

  • Position among the brands named, visibility %, and share of voice
  • Which competitors Claude names in your place
  • Full answer text for every question, on every engine, side by side

Built for action, not one number

Buyer questions, grouped into topics you can work.

Your buyer questions (pricing, comparisons, alternatives, and more) are grouped into topics. Each topic gets its own score and trend, so you can see exactly which part of the buying journey Claude skips you on, not just one blended number.

  • Each topic scored on its own, with a trend over time
  • 25 buyer questions on Monitor, 60 on Pro, 120 on Growth
  • The same questions asked every time, so the trend is real

Closing the gap

Gaps become a ranked task list.

On Pro and Growth, gaps turn into a ranked task list across four layers: pages to refresh or write, lists and articles that don't mention you, Reddit/YouTube/LinkedIn threads, and a weekly technical scan for blocked AI crawlers. Each task explains why it matters, what to do, and which topics it moves. Where it can, GetIntel writes the work itself: the page content to paste in, the outreach pitch, the Reddit reply; new pages come as a brief to work from. Coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex connect over MCP to read your data and work the list; you review what ships. Monitor is monitoring only, with no task list.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

For brands, a Claude rank tracker checks whether Claude names you when a buyer asks it for a recommendation, where you sit among the brands it names, and which sources it cites. It is not a Google rank tracker built on Claude, which is the other thing the phrase can mean. GetIntel checks Claude weekly on the Growth plan, through Anthropic's API with web search on.

Not from GetIntel. Claude is included on the Growth plan at $149 a month, checked weekly, and our free AI citation checker covers ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews but not Claude. The free option is checking by hand: ask Claude your buyers' questions in a fresh chat with web search on and record who it names. That works for a handful of questions, not as a history.

Fix a set of real buyer questions and ask them in Claude on a schedule, with web search on, in a fresh chat outside any Project. Record whether you are named, your position among the brands named, the cited sources, and who is named instead. Run the same questions with web search off once, too: if you appear with search on but not off, the gap is in what Claude learned in training rather than in what it can find.

With web search on, usually. On 2 August 2026 Claude cited 5.27 domains per answer across 100 buying questions, drawn from 403 different domains. Without web search it answers from training data and cites nothing. GetIntel checks Claude with web search on and logs every URL it cites, classified as yours, a competitor's, or third-party.

Weekly, on Mondays, on the Growth plan, using the same buyer questions every time. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews run the same questions daily on every plan. Weekly is enough for most questions: of 520 question-and-engine series we tracked daily from 10 July to 10 August 2026, 455 never changed state.

No. A traditional rank tracker checks where your page sits in Google's results for a keyword, and that position is stable enough to watch. Claude writes one answer and names a short list of brands. Position in an answer does not persist the same way: across four engines tracked daily from 10 July to 10 August 2026, a cited domain kept its position between consecutive runs only 39.5% of the time. What a Claude tracker reports reliably is whether you were named.
